A.R.Ts Afternoon are a Scottish Charity who run vibrant youth samba drumming band, Pulse of the Place.

A.R.Ts Afternoon was initially set up in 1996 to give young people access to the arts through running Drama and Craft Clubs. In 1998 computer clubs were added focussing on using computers as a tool to create digital artwork and music. In 2006, samba drumming groups were added and Pulse of the Place Youth Band were formed.

In August 2014, A.R.Ts Afternoon became a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC045057), with a major shift from centre based work to outreach work based in areas that are high SIMD. There was also change of focus to drumming only kicking of the Drum Club Project alongside Pulse of the Place.

Pulse of the Place have performed at many community events in Edinburgh and the Lothians and also some very high profile events; London Paralympic Games 2012, Brighton Festival 2017, Brasilica Festival in Liverpool 2008, 2010, 2014 and New York Tartan Day Parade in 2023.

As A.R.Ts Afternoon enters it’s 30th year and Pulse of the Place enters its 20th year the future looks bright and exciting.
